Terms of Use

These conditions apply whenever someone visits, reads, or uses a search tool on Boone County Criminal History. Using the website confirms agreement with every term below. A person who does not accept them must stop using the site.

NO FCRA USE. Boone County Criminal History is privately operated and has no connection to a local, Iowa, or federal government office. This site and its advertising partners do not offer tools for credit, employment, insurance, tenant, or other decisions governed by the Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA). The site is neither a private investigation firm nor a consumer reporting agency.

1. What This Website Is

This is a private reference site, independently operated without government affiliation. It neither stores official criminal records nor files papers, retrieves records, or performs official checks for a visitor.

Its role is to identify the Boone County Sheriff, Iowa District Court, the Iowa Department of Public Safety and Division of Criminal Investigation, the Iowa Sex Offender Registry, and other sources that maintain distinct public records. Some pages also connect to outside research tools.

2. Rules for Using This Site

Each user agrees not to:

  • Use an automated scraper, bot, or similar collection tool against the pages
  • Violate a federal, Iowa, or local law through the website
  • Disrupt service or interfere with another visitor’s access
  • Use the information to harass, stalk, threaten, or intimidate a person
  • Attempt unauthorized entry into any system or account
  • Rely on site content for a hiring, housing, lending, or insurance decision

3. No Harassment, Stalking, or Discrimination

No one may use information found here or through a linked tool to stalk, threaten, intimidate, harass, or discriminate against another person. Such conduct can violate the law. Iowa Sex Offender Registry information is supplied for public safety, and Iowa law restricts misuse. Registry data cannot lawfully serve as a basis for vigilantism, blacklisting, or discriminatory conduct.

4. We Are Not a Consumer Reporting Agency

Boone County Criminal History is not a consumer reporting agency under the FCRA and produces no credit report, consumer report, or official background check. Its advertising partners are not presented as providers for regulated screening. Information from this site or a linked tool must not be used to:

  • Set insurance terms or assess creditworthiness
  • Evaluate a rental or housing application
  • Make an employment decision
  • Decide eligibility for a license, permit, or government benefit
  • Carry out any other purpose regulated by the FCRA

A lawful regulated check must come through an appropriate FCRA-compliant provider or an authorized official process, not this website or its general search boxes.

5. No Legal Advice

Site content is general information, not legal advice. It cannot determine how an Iowa charge, conviction, warrant, or expungement law applies to one person. A licensed Iowa attorney should address an individual legal question.

6. No Warranties

All material and functions are provided "as is." We make no guarantee that:

  • Outside search results are complete or correctly matched
  • Every page remains free from bugs, errors, or security weaknesses
  • Information is always current, accurate, or complete
  • Website access will be continuous or uninterrupted

Charges may be filed, amended, dismissed, expunged, or made confidential, so older information can lose context. No statement here is an official declaration from the Boone County Sheriff, Iowa Judicial Branch, Iowa DPS/DCI, or any public agency.

7. Third-Party Services and Links

Links may lead to sheriff, court, state-agency, legal-aid, or outside search websites. We do not control a destination’s availability, content, price, security, or data practices. Its own terms apply after a visitor leaves this site.

8. Intellectual Property

Boone County Criminal History or its content partners own the website’s original text, graphics, logos, and code. Copying, modification, redistribution, or creation of derivative material requires prior written permission.

9. Limits on Our Liability

To the maximum extent allowed by law, we are not responsible for loss or damages arising from website use, linked services, or reliance on information found through either.

10. Indemnification

A user agrees to defend and hold us harmless from claims, demands, or proceedings caused by that user’s conduct or violation of these terms, including related legal costs where allowed.

11. Governing Law

Iowa law governs these terms. Any lawsuit connected to use of the website must be brought in a court located in Iowa, subject to controlling jurisdiction and venue rules. Iowa Code chapter 22 and chapter 692 govern official public and criminal-history records, but they do not make this private website a public record custodian.

12. Changes to These Terms

We may revise these conditions. A revised version takes effect when it is posted on this page.

13. Cutting Off Access

Access may be suspended, limited, or ended at any time and without advance notice.

14. Severability

If one provision is held invalid or unenforceable, the remaining terms continue in effect. The affected language will be narrowed only as much as needed to make it enforceable.

15. Questions

Questions about these conditions may be sent through the Contact page.
